  1. I am not sure what is wrong with people, this is the third Hostetter's in this flavor to come up for sale
on Ebay over the past 5 weeks, $1250 $1650 and now $2850. I sold a dead ringer to this one at the
Reno Expo in 2012 and was beat down to $675, I was asking $800. Fairly certain this is the middle
stages of Alzheimers, when you see these Folks at shows buying Bromo's for $75 and purple Halls
& Luhrs for $500, kindly grab them by the hand and call them a Taxi home.

  2. Was this not listed correctly, maybe it was Pontiled, LOL. I see a 700.00 - 800.00 Bottle,
I purchased mine in the same green coloration from Ron Flannery 15 years ago for 600.00.

  3. Ahh the drama and unlimited possibilities of an auction format. I listed this Hoss expecting it to sell in the range of the past few examples. The main difference in this one was a strong lime color, and pristine uncleaned condition. Obviously I was surprised to see it realize this massive price, but when listing on ebay, to me it is all about the money...plain and simple. While hard to justify this price, I am very happy as this allows me to pay an inflated price for a true western bitters for my collection. If I had a few more green Hostetters, I would be listing them right now as the demand appears to be very strong.
In the grand scheme of things, when one looks at say a Drake's Plantation Bitters which is about as common as a Hoss, ( though figural and prettier), comparing an amber Drake's for $100, to an example in this color ( $10k), the Hostetters is a relative bargain. There are hundreds of Drake's in good colors, and anything other than straight amber will bring from $300-$50k. Quite frankly, I will take the $2900 for the Hoss, and I would bet most of you would too. Kind of makes up for the loss I take on other glass. DM

    1. II will have to side with DM on this one. I have never done any "counts" on the amount of Drake's and the amount of Hostetter's that were produced. But I will bet there are as many Drake's as there are Hostetter's out there. So.... I like the idea of being able to buy a green Hostetter's for $2800 and still have enough left over for a top ten western bitters or 10 other killer bottles as opposed to buying one green Drakes

  4. Its a really nice example. That's the beauty, (and sometimes the pain), of auctioning a bottle. It sells for what people want to pay for it. Now you could put it on your table for 2900 and people would look at you strange all day long but then they would be just as quick to snap it up for 200 bucks with out a word too. I call it an accomplishment to reach a new height when auctioning a bottle, if you had crappy pics and a poor description it would of sold for 300. so way to go, Nice job!

  5. There’s less Hostetter’s than Drakes in this color scheme. You could put another 0 behind the hammer price if it were a Drakes in this color. WGAs Hoss looked like a pretty nice example. This is a tough variant to find not etched or stained and in a color like this. When buried they usually come out like toast. Color and condition drive the price of bottles at auction, someone got a real nice piece.

  6. Hmmmmmmmn 15 years ago for 600.00, with adjustment for inflation and rarity 2900.00 would be about right. SO SUCK IT UP and quit complaining, a buyer got a good deal...........

  7. I guess the joke is on me at this point as I still have not been paid for the Hoss.. Sent several emails and so far, crickets...Might have to re-list it and see if I can get $600.
