Rosenbaum's Bitters

Here is yet another Canyonville show surprise. This example of the large size Rosenbaum's Bitters is extremely crude and beautiful It is the variant without the dot on the base which has been theorized to be western blown. The embossing is very bold for one of these, and has never been cleaned...just pristine glass! Any show where one can add a piece such as this to the collection is a great show indeed...

The Jewel Bitters A. Fortlouis was a pretty nice show find too!

  1. This is most likely a western blown example, it has the tapered collar lower ring top and the absence of a large dot in the base as well as being somewhat out of square when viewed from the base. These are much harder to find versus the eastern blown examples.

  2. Beauty, Dale! I have dug those big "Rosies" at sites where inns once stood on the road to Washoe along Hwy 50 in the Sierra. For some reason plenty of them ended up along that road. It passes right in front of our place and was used from 1862 to 1935. We took plenty good bottles over the years, but all were stolen in a break in 3 years back. I saved most of our finds at the cabin and the framing lumber was lined with them. All gone now.

  3. A. Fortlouis was a Booze Dealer down here in San Diego, Cal. at one time. He did put out a punkinseed, I had one a while ago, It is rumored that he put out this bitters. This is the 3rd one I know of now, one is in the old Rurick K. Collection, one in Richard's Collection and now this one. Good Score, they are Tough. Rick
