The recent IXL "showdown" in Auburn, and a recent American Bottle Auction offering got me to thinking about one of my favorite bit...
Max Bells collection of lead and brass labeled foods was the finest I have ever seen, and is truely historic, remember the anerobic conditions of the San Francisco Bay fill allowed these to survive, and there are very few ares in the country where this has occurred, other than some of the steamship finds. The buckles and the pipes were also outstanding, quite a nice grouping of great gold rush era items. It will be a long time before any more of these items will come to light. Nice job building this collection Max.
