They have been dug in 1865 layers and they have also come out of 1870s layers, but the thought of them being made from say 1865 to into the 1870s just does not seem possible. If they had that long of a run, there would probably be 5x more known examples. We've dug hundreds of 1870s pits in EG Lyons territory and never seen a piece of one in 1870s holes, only 1860s.
